June 8th is Pentecost, and also Youth Sunday, and our Annual Parish Picnic!
June 8th is Youth Sunday at St. Michael’s and all children will be part of the service as ushers, lectors, intercessors and even designing the bulletin! We will honor by name Church School 3rd Graders by awarding them with bibles, and Confirmands by awarding them with Books of Common Prayer, and enjoy singing together with members of the Children’s Chapel who have prepared a special song for the occasion. Please note that we will not have nursery care or Cathedral Choir rehearsal on that day. Parents, please let us know if you child will NOT be attending church so that we can make assignments for the service!
After services come celebrate the hard work of our church school teachers and enjoy the spring that has finally come to Milton! St. Michael’s Potluck Picnic will take place in the playground behind the church, and – as the date coincides with Pentecost – you are welcome to wear red in celebration if you are feeling festive! The church will provide ice cream and cake, lemonade, water and iced tea. Please bring sandwiches for 6-8 (especially helpful if you have kids), appetizers, a side dish or a salad and (if your dessert tooth begs you) feel free to contribute more! Lemonade, water, and iced tea will be provided. St. Michael’s will be serving cake and ice cream as part of the dessert.
Book Collecting for South Africa Continues!
We are extending our very successful book drive for pre-school children in South Africa through the Easter season, until Pentecost (June 8th)! So, you still have time to choose a book or two from your family shelf to help a child. This is connected to the diocesan-wide book drive for the Masakhane Trust. Also, we have newly-printed St. Michael’s book plates – large and small – to put into your book. Just add a couple of words, and maybe sign it! All collected books have been set out in the Upper Parish Hall so you can retrieve your book if you’ve already donated one, put in a bookplate with your best wishes, then put it into the trunk. Thanks for your generosity and kindness!
Bishop Shaw’s Remembrance Book
Bishop Tom Shaw’s nearly 20-year ministry as our diocesan bishop has been a period of tremendous grace and abundance for our diocese. Many events have been planned in honor of Bishop Shaw; please see the posting on the bulletin board in the Upper Parish Hall. There is currently a red ‘Remembrance Book’ on the stand in the Upper Parish Hall for you to record your reflections, thoughts, remembrances, prayers, or simply your name, for Bishop Tom. This book will serve as a distinctive gift from our congregation, to be presented to him – along with Remembrance Books from across the diocese – at the culminating celebration on June 21st!
Family Camp 2014
Thursday, 6/26/2014 – 1:00 p.m. to Sunday, 6/29/2014 – 11:30 a.m. at the Barbara C. Harris Camp and Conference Center, 108 Wally Stone Lane, Greenfield, NH.
Come enjoy the wonder of nature and celebrate the gift of family and faith with others at Family Camp. All sorts of families have enjoyed themselves in years past at Family Camp, including grandparents with grandchildren, single parents and godparents. Share worship and rest, outdoor activities and group programs, prayer and laughter with friends old and new. Reconnection and recreation for the whole family, from the youngest camper to the oldest, awaits in the beautiful New Hampshire woods. Find information about the camp and registration here.
Please journey with us as we gather Wednesday nights this spring and in the summer to nourish our questions, prayers and commitment to growing in our faith. We want to offer a safe and scheduled time that allows you to come once, twice, or more often to share readings from scripture, a favorite book, or simply to pray together. We will gather from seven thirty to nine typically in the Upper Parish Hall. We look forward to seeing as many as can come.
Summer Coffee Hour Sign-Ups
