We were up bright and early to head to St. Paul’s Homecoming Center once again. Joe gave us our itinerary for the day and we were off to work!
Our first stop was landscaping for an elderly gentleman named Mike. He was rebuilding his late mother’s house as well as his own amidst struggles with his health. Mike has been through many battles with insurance companies but remains hopeful that he will get both houses rebuilt.
After some extensive landscaping, we loaded all of the debris and headed out to our next site. We were fortunate that our next location was very close to Lake Pontchartrain.
Our job for the afternoon was to clean and remove lumber from a storage facility that is owned by St. Paul’s. This site was flooded by hurricane Isaac and left mud and debris after nearly three feet of water swept through the area. Luckily, the materials were not seriously damaged and are able to be used in the future. After a very muddy, slimy afternoon we headed home and prepared for the next day’s work.
