We are planning a pilgrimage to Israel / Palestine in 2016. St. Michael‘s extends its activity far beyond our local community, with outreach to New Orleans, South Africa, and Guatemala. These are mission projects intended to forge relationships and serve communities in whatever way those communities find themselves in need, and in whatever ways we find ourselves able to help. The result is a reciprocal blessing for all touched by the experience.
St. Michael‘s also makes pilgrimages to sites worldwide that are part of the Christian story. A pilgrimage is an event altogether different from a mission: it enables one to journey to a place that is sacred to one’s faith and purpose, to be in that place – physically and spiritually – for a stretch of time in reflection and discovery, and to absorb with intention the offerings of the Holy Spirit that are alive and moving through the setting. It is a trip of prayer and worship, of seeing and experiencing, and of deepening our faith and building greater understanding of a tradition, through its stories and its places. Heather Putnam is the lead organizer for this trip, and she will be accompanied by clergy from St. Michael‘s (Hall and Joyce) and from St. Paul’s, Nantucket (The Rev. Whitney Burr).
We will leave Boston on March 29, 2016, and return on April 9th. There is an extension available that brings pilgrims into Jordan to tour Petra, and will return April 12th. To learn more about the trip, click here for the tour company website, or come by the churchand pick up a handy brochure! Have a look at the information, and you will realize this will be an exceptional and exciting trip. For additional information on this trip please contact Heather Putnam at 617-513-0881.
We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.
(T.S. Eliot, from “Little Gidding”)
