On Thursday, November 17th, the BostonHome Interfaith Collaborative will sponsor a “Housing Surge” at the Laboure Center, 275 West Broadway in South Boston. A Housing Surge is a new initiative that eliminates red tape and bureaucracy in the housing application process by inviting eligible people to gather with housing specialists to complete housing applications in one day at one location. Ordinarily, applications can take five to ten months to complete, and many visits to various locations to collect all the necessary paperwork. The most recent housing surge, which took place in July 2016, helped 16 people move directly from the street or shelter into apartments in a matter of days. The BostonHome Interfaith Collaborative has supported this city effort, which ended chronic homelessness among veterans in the City of Boston!
Volunteers are needed to help make the housing surge a success. Please consider volunteering to donate food, serve breakfast, or to help guide someone through the application process, which begins 5am and runs until 12pm! The housing surge is a tremendous opportunity for chronically homeless individuals to make great headway on the journey to stable housing.
